As an organization competition cheer has been in affect for many years. However, it was only under our current vice president , Misty Kennedy, that the idea of the Wildcats was born. Previously we competed as individual districts which presented a few problems. One we would compete against each other, and two, we did not effectivly represent CYFA as a whole. Three years ago Misty went to the board with a district wide program, it was approved, and the Wildcats were born. The first year we competed with 2 teams, the next year three , this year we have 6 teams competing. They are all varying sizes and ages so we will not compete against each other. This is an amazing accomplishment and is a true testiment to the league to show such growth so quickly. As the Wildcats we have been very successful- here are a few accomplishments:

Mutiple first place and second place wins across the board. The wildcats have never not placed in a competition. For the last two years we have also been awarded the spirit award, as well as sportsmanship awards- two years running. We have added “most fun”, best chorography, and grand champions to our list also. This past year we took a team to the Cheersport Grand Championships and walked away with first place in Grand Champions, and we placed 3rd overall in Nationals. We do not tryout, we do not hire out coaching or chorography, we do not require tumble- we are a completely volunter based organization – and it is working. It is the goal of CYFA to offer a competive cheer experience to those who are not ready to choose it year round.

We do have to enforce stricter rules than sideline to ensure success due to the nature of competition, but it is all clearly laid out.

  • Only 2 excused practices will be allowed, after two, your daughter will be removed from the team.
  • Competition requires every girl at every practice to be successful.
  • Competitions are on Sundays- we will not know the times until about the Wed before the comp. You can just plan on all day.
  • If your daughter is signed up for sideline cheer through CYFA and does not fulfill her sideline responsibilities she will be asked to leave the team.
  • 2 late arrivals to practice equal one absence.
  • Arriving on time means in practice attire, hair up, no jewelry, cheer shoes.
  • Any cheerleader that misses a competition will be asked to leave the team.
  • Most of communication will be handled via e-mail so please make sure we have an address that you can get often. If you are away form e-mail often through the day maybe find an "e mail" buddy " on the team that can keep you informed.
  • We gather together prior to a competition to ride together- this is required.
  • Competition team positions are based on what is best for the team. We unfortunately do not have time to try each girl in each position that she may be very well suited for.
  • We only practice 1-2 days a week (possibly 3 on comp weeks)- your daughter will be required to condition, stretch, and practice at home. -This will be very evident to your coach.
  • A tumble class is not required, but certainly helps.
  • All cheerleaders and parents are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times. (Practice and competitions).
  • No gossiping about our team, another team, any coaches, any individual at or away from practice.
  • No profanity, abusive language etc (at practice, competitions)
  • Practice is closed- there will be no parents, siblings, friends allowed at practice.
  • All squad and routine decisions are left to the discretion of the coaches.
  • Please do not use practice and competitions as a punishment for your daughter. We know this is a busy time of year, but if you use practice as a punishment it not only punishes your daughter, but the entire team. (All parents coaches and girls)- this is a team sport and we don't just mean the girls :).
  • Please e mail competitioncheer @cyfa.org if you have any questions regarding next season.
